At TrueVita Senior Care Solutions, we believe in nurturing emotional well-being alongside practical support. That’s why we’re preparing to offer pet therapy visits as part of our in-home care services, beginning in 2026.

Meet Louie, Our Pet Therapy Dog in Training

Louie is our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy and future therapy companion. Known for their gentle, affectionate nature, Cavaliers are especially well-suited for working with older adults due to their calm temperament and strong desire for human connection.

Louie is currently undergoing socialization and foundational training, with the goal of becoming a certified therapy dog by 2026. Once certified, Louie will accompany me on select in-home visits to offer emotional support, companionship, and comfort to the seniors we serve.

Clinically Proven Benefits of Pet Therapy for Seniors

Pet therapy is clinically proven to improve the emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being of older adults. Research supports the many therapeutic effects of interacting with a calm, friendly animal, especially for seniors managing chronic illness, cognitive decline, or social isolation.

  • Reduces Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety - Research shows that time with a calm, friendly animal can lower stress and ease feelings of worry or sadness.

  • Improves Mood by Boosting Serotonin and Oxytocin - Interaction with dogs increases “feel-good” hormones, supporting a more positive emotional state.

  • Decreases Loneliness & Isolation - Regular visits from a therapy dog like Louie can provide much-needed companionship for those living alone or feeling disconnected.

  • Stimulates Conversation and Mental Engagement - Pet therapy has been shown to encourage verbal communication and attentiveness, especially helpful for individuals with cognitive decline or early-stage dementia.

  • Encourages Gentle Movement and Daily Routine - Light physical interaction, such as petting or brushing a dog, helps maintain mobility and fosters a sense of daily structure.

Coming in 2026

Pet therapy visits with Louie will be offered as:

  • An add-on during in-home assessment

  • A companion during emotional support or care planning visits

  • Or a stand-alone visit focused entirely on therapeutic companionship

Each visit will be supervised by a registered social worker, and thoughtfully customized to the needs and comfort of the client.

Louie's Journey to becoming a Therapy Dog.

As part of his preparation for future in-home therapy visits, Louie is currently being socialized in long-term care settings. These early experiences are helping him build trust, confidence, and the calm presence needed to support seniors meaningfully and gently. This photo captures a special moment between Louie and a resident during a recent visit. It's truly heartwarming to see the smiles and engagement he brings.  Many residents light up at the sight of him, offering affection, conversation, or simply enjoying his calm presence. These positive interactions are a key part of Louie’s development as a future therapy dog.
